Stopping Smoking

If you are a smoker and wish to stop, please ask your local pharmacy for information on their stop smoking advisors and clinics.

Healthwise

This is a programme to maintain health through encouraging exercise and healthy eating. It is available to anyone by calling 01254 694503. It is particularly suitable for those who are overweight, who have chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, depression.

Contraception

Your doctor can help you choose the right method of contraception (family planning) for your situation and prescribe for you a variety of contraception medicines. Our nurses can administer the contraceptive injection and Dr Parry and Dr Denno can insert the implant in the arm, called “Implanon”. Contraception services can also be accessed through the Contraception Clinic at Barbara Castle Way Healthcentre 01254-617100 or Brook Advisory Clinic 01254 357889 (Under 25s only). Sexual Health

We can provide help and information about maintaining sexual health. If you are concerned you may have picked up a sexually transmitted disease or want screening for these, contact the Barbara Castle Way, Blackburn and the number isĀ 01772 401140.

Drug and Alcohol Problems

Counselling

We have counsellors working with us in the practice. Speak to your doctor if you think you could benefit from this. Alternatively counselling services are available from the Brook Advisory Clinic 01254 357889 for young people or from the Women’s Centre.
Stopping You Getting Ill (Primary Prevention)
We offer health checks with the nurses for anyone, but especially if you might be at risk of heart disease or stroke. As well as suggesting this to you when you come for an appointment, we may write to you and ask you to come for a check-up.
